Costume Designer & Artist

I am a Costume Designer and Artist based in NYC and Detroit. I hold a MFA in costume design from NYU Tisch’s Department of Design for Stage & Film, a BFA in theatre design & production and a BA in art & design, both from the University of Michigan. My creative work is focused around three things. Art, People, and Stories. To me, costume design perfectly encapsulates these three things. As an artist, I build worlds, and as a person, I build communities. I believe that stories are what make us human. I tell socially relevant stories, amplify women’s voices, and the voices of those with disabilities, like myself. As a first-generation American, I want to uplift those who have not traditionally received the same amount of representation. I honor people’s histories and individuality while creating characters and I meticulously look at character’s motivations and relationships to uncover truths in the stories being told. My background in fine art is in service of this, helping me solidify clear visuals and artistic execution. I am invested in my community and am an educator with over 5 years experience teaching at the undergraduate level, as well as 3rd-12th grade students. I have designed plays, musicals, operas, and films, but particularly loves designing pieces connected to music.
